Palawan, the Philippines westernmost province are usually marketed as “the last ecological frontier”. Perhaps so was 20 years ago. Overfishing, logging and mining has left its mark here too and recent fast-growing tourism do not allow for any wilderness. But also gave people an environmentally friendly alternative to income.
Compared to other popular tourist destinations in Asia, it is hotel and resorts investments even on a small scale and there are plenty of pristine white beaches, dramatic limestone mountains and beautiful coral reefs.
